Shimano recently introduced a new style of sea fishing to the European market called Vertical Jigging. This unique and higly effective style is extremely popular. Vertical jigging covers far more water, the average lift being from around 10 to 30 metres of water. The special jigs are unbalanced and will move sideward. It's similar to the surface lure technique known as "walking the dog" only you're fishing in a vertical water coloumn rather than horizontally.

The introduction of Butterfly Jigging in the United Kingdom can be attributed to its early development in Japan during the early 1990’s. Japanese anglers developed a revolutionary style of deep water jigging that changed the nature of jigging as it was known at the time. Fishing as deep as 500 feet, they were using the first generation of super lines coupled with fluorocarbon shock leaders and the original jig designs. Shimano was able to successfully identify the significance of these jigs, and created a new lure design introduced as the Butterfly Jig.

The lure combined with the line and tackle, helped increase sensitivity to detect bites, and get successful hooksets. The end result has been an increase in fish catching percentages, proving that the Butterfly Jig System works in aiding anglers across the globe to catch more fish.

A variety of species have been caught throughout Japan and Australia with the introduction of the Butterfly jigs, and the technique developed to fish them. Anglers in the United States have enjoyed the same success with the launch of Shimano Butterfly Jigs, and technique in 2005.

The Butterfly Jig system has proven its fish catching prowess in a variety of different oceans throughout the world, and has recently generated astounding success for fisherman across Europe.

Butterfly Jigging Technique

The butterfly jiggin technique requires a precise motion to impart thr right fish catching action to the jig.
This technique works for both conventional and spinning tackle with the same results.

After the Jig is dropped to the desired depth, the rod tip is facing down. With an upward circular motion, the rod tip will be lifted up on the upswing of the reel habdle and lowered on the downstroke of the rotation.

The reel retrieve is a tight circular motion that is close to the body with the body with the rod butt held loosely under your left armpit. The distance in which the rod tip moves is 10 to 20 inches depending on the desired lure action and retreival speed. This technique will work on a faxt or slow retreive depending on how the fish are reacting.

Beastmaster Jigging Boat 183

The Beastmaster vertical jigging rods offer the same actions as the vertical rods of the Speedmaster series. There are differences in the material and with the used components. Beast master is produced coal fiber from a combination of Biofibre and XT60.

Jigging Tips

1. On the drop down keep you finger on you spool so that you control the speed of the decent, if you do not you will only end up with a birds nest (tangle)

2. When you are working your jig count how many turns up you get your fish, this will save time if they are being taken say 35 turns up as you can quickly go to that depth

3. Vary the speed that you retrieve your lures, and remember that the speed of the tide also effects the action of the lure

4. Also have a good supply of rigs made up, as if you loose your rig on a wreck it can be quickly replaced ready for the next drift
